THE KILLER SHREWS They Devour Bones, Flesh, Marrow, Everything. Best known as Deputy Festus Haggen on Gunsmoke, Ken Curtis produced and co-stars in this schlock classic about giant shrews that consume their body weight every eight hours. James Best is Thorne Sherman, forced by a hurricane to take refuge on the isolated island of Dr. Marlowe Craigis (Baruch Lumet), whose experiments mutated the hungry critters. Thorne makes a friend in the doctor's daughter, Ann (Ingrid Goude), and an enemy in his assistant, Jerry Farrell (Curtis) but they must all work together when the fur starts to fly! Special-effects veteran Ray Kellogg directed this film and its companion piece, The Giant Gila Monster, later sharing the directorial credit (with John Wayne) for The Green Berets.
