"HICK" book, author Sarah Miller talk and reading at Tinker Street Cinema

"HICK" book, author Sarah Miller talk and reading

120 mins | Rated TBC

In celebration of Woodstock Pride and Pride month, Queerly presents a talk and reading with Sarah Miller, author of "Hick" who just released a new book about a very historic Hudson Valley resident you might have heard of: Eleanor Roosevelt. Sarah spent countless hours at the FDR Presidential Library in Hyde Park reading the 3,500 letters between Eleanor and her longtime love Lorena Hickok or “Hick”, who was a trailblazing journalist. Eleanor and Hick spent time at the Val-kill Cottage in Hyde Park, which Eleanor’s husband, FDR, built for her and called “the love nest.” The book has been covered by national press like NBC News as well as leading LGBTQ+ outlets — it’s actually on out.com’s “Queer Books to Watch Out for this Summer.” The letters between Eleanor and Hick point to a true love story that was right there in plain sight. Especially today, it feels like such an important one to tell for a new generation. Join us for a fireside chat with Sarah exploring the development of the book, moderated by Jennifer Brown. Jennifer, a best-selling author and host of the The Will to Change podcast, will lead the talk with Sarah, and explore the lessons we can take away from the book for the LGBTQ+ experience today.
